society The Kapralova Society is a non-profit arts organization based in Toronto, Canada. Founded by Karla Hartl in 1998, the society's mission is to promote interest in Kapralova and other women in music through education, research, and special projects, in collaboration with other organizations. Members of the society reside in Canada, the United States, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Israel, and Japan. cd project The compact disc "Vitezslava Kapralova: Portrait of a Composer" was released on December 15, 1998. The project was initiated by the society's predecessor, Spolecnost Vitezslavy Kapralove, founded by Karla Hartl in Prague in November 1997, and undertaken in partnership with the Prague label Studio Matous. Together, the two organizations were able to raise 148,000 Czech crowns from both public and private sources. In addition, the project received considerable contributions in-kind. Since then it has been providing information not only on Vitezslava Kapralova but also on other women composers, both contemporary and historical. In November 1998 the website received an important recognition from Malaspina University which rated the site as a five-star site.1 1 Malaspina University defines a five-star site as follows: "[I]n our evaluation of WWW resources available (for the authors/artists we refer to), a five star site uses internet capacities effectively and the information there (or linked from there) appears to be reliable.
